EDO NMA PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE SECURITY SERVICE, EDO STATE COMMAND

The State Officers’ Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, led by our dynamic Chairman Dr. Imoisili Udoka, paid a courtesy visit to the Director, Department of State Security Service Mrs. Clara Olika.

The Chairman in her speech said security is very important to the people of Edo State, particularly stressing the security of Doctors practicing in the state, since they provide health care services to Edo people.
Dr. Imoisili Udoka further stated categorically that one of the reasons for brain drain amongst doctors, is insecurity in the country and particularly the state, hence she requested for bipartite collaboration between the DSS and NMA Edo State, where the DSS could assist within her ability to ensure the security of doctors in the state and also be willing to accept any invitation to NMA programmes especially when it bothers on security.

On the other hand, Dr. Imoisili pledged that the Association will also be willing to cooperate with the DSS on any matter that bothers on security.

The deputy Chairman of Edo NMA, Dr. Benson Okwara in his speech said it was a welcome development to have a woman as director of DSS in the state. He corroborated the position of the Chairman as regards the need to ensure that the security of Edo people and indeed of Doctors in the state is given utmost priority.

The Director of DSS Mrs. Clara Olika, effusively responded to the executive of Edo NMA, for creating the time out of their busy schedule to pay this courtesy visit and promised to collaborate with Edo NMA in the protection of doctors in the state. Mrs. Olika further stated that the doors of the DSS is always open to Edo NMA. She went further to give some very useful security tips, particularly advising that Doctors should be careful of domestic staffs they keep around them and be mindful of information about their itinerary released to all and sundry. She also counseled that since Doctors are front line emergency care givers who must be called upon at odd times of the night, the various institutions, especially the State owned hospitals management agency should build adequate and befitting call rooms for Doctors.
